House Hunting -- Maids Quarters
Every house and condo was set up for a maid. Most often the kitchen would be closed off to the rest of the house and next to that was the laundry area and maid's quarters. They had room for a bed and a small bathroom. Not an easy job or life I imagine.

Interesting! Having a maid must be the norm there. It could well be that having employment and housing is a real step up for many of these women. Perhaps? Home Sweet Home is sometimes Nook Sweet Nook!
I'd imagine that living with your family would be a joy - tiring, but delightful!
